LEADING WORSHIP IS A NATURAL BY PRODUCT OF LEARNING TO WORSHIP. The most effective trait of a worship leader is a deep love for God and a willingness to express it. Having musical skills is essential but believe me a multitude of musical errors can be covered by a burning passion for God.
My mentor Ruth Kelly Jah did not have much skill in singing, but oh my God!! What an anointing and awesome presence of God we experienced every time she held the microphone, because of how much time she spent with God. She was so passionate about prayer. That was her secret. She knew God and loved spending time with Him. She led worship excellently and I learned many things from her.
SHE TAUGHT THOSE SHE LED THAT, KNOWING GOD AND SPENDING TIME WITH HIM ON A REGULAR BASIS IN PRAYER IS ONE OF THE KEYS TO ANOINTED WORSHIP.
3 things we need to know to flow effectively in worship:
- The Father’s LOVE,
- The FELLOWSHIP we have with Jesus,
- The POWER that is available to us by the Holy Spirit
1John 3:1 says “Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Also John 14:23 says “Jesus answered and said to him, ‘If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him’.” Understanding and accepting that we have a loving Father who is God Himself goes a long way in giving us the freedom we need to truly worship God. Imagine God making His home with you! Amazing!!!
1Cor. 1:9 says “God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord”. We did not come into this fellowship by ourselves; we were called into it by God. This is a privilege. It is exciting. It is wonderful. We are companions, friends, and partners with the Lord Jesus Christ brought close to Him by God the Father.
Acts 1:8 says, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. The power of the Holy Spirit frees us to speak about the Lord. We can see clearly who He is and tell others about Him. What an assignment! The ability to see Him clearly also frees us to love Him dearly.
